British Curriculum: Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum (EYFS) for children up to 5 years old

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is a British curriculum framework for children from Pre-Nursery (2 years), Nursery (3 years) and Reception (4 years) courses. The curriculum is structured around seven key areas of learning. The three main areas are:

• Personal, social and emotional development.
• Communication and language
• Physical development

Specific areas include the skills and knowledge essential for children to successfully participate in society. The four specific areas are:

• Language
• Mathematics
• Understanding the world
• Artistic expression and design

Equivalence with the British system

Pre-school education in Spain is divided into two cycles: the first for children aged 0-3 years and the second for children aged 3-6 years. The first cycle in Spain is aligned with the Early Years stage of the EYFS, while the second cycle corresponds to the Foundation stage. Both systems share the aim of preparing children for formal education, although they differ in their structure and assessment methods.
