Our students that are taking challenging themselves for the DoE Award from Years 10 & 11 recently had an exciting excursion in Madrid’s Sierra Norte. After a training day at school, where they learned map reading, camp craft, first aid, and communication skills, they headed off on their adventure.
Their objective was to find their way over hilly terrain to the village of Mangirón. On the way, they encountered an emergency plane practicing extinguishing a forest fire, walked until their feet hurt, used the breathing techniques they learned on their training day to help a friend, and eventually made it to the camp. They still had to organise their camp and cook for themselves, while also anticipating the next day of hiking still to come.
