Ms Andrea Robson is the Head of Early Years and Primary at St. George Madrid, a British school for children from 2 to 18 years old. We had the opportunity to meet her and talk to her about her experience in St. George.
Why do families choose a British education in Madrid?
British education has a strong reputation worldwide, with parents choosing British schools for the broad, balanced curriculum and teaching that equips pupils with the skills and qualifications to enter, or re-enter, the UK education system at school, college, or university level.
What are the highlights of the St. George school in Madrid, and what do you think is its main
value?
Without a doubt, the highlight of St George is our school community. We are a lively, bubbly and thriving school where our children love to come and learn together. Our children all look after each other and are concerned for one another – it is lovely to see. I also very much like our international diversity and knowing that we can all learn from one another. At the moment, our topic is “Around the World” and the children – and staff – are really enjoying learning about Spanish and other cultures. Finally, we are a school with very strong values and these resonate through our school on a daily basis. Our 5 values are truly a daily part of school life and the way in which the children learn the importance of these values in the real world is something we excel at. Finally, all these things, and more, coupled with our outstanding staff bring true value to our school. Our teachers and assistants work tirelessly to bring learning to life for all our children and truly develop in all our children a life long passion for learning.
What are the children of St. George like?
Our children are delightful – they are excited and passionate learners who fill the corridors with chatter and laughter every day. They make the school the wonderful place that it is. We learn and laugh together – we make mistakes together – we overcome challenges together – and with our new Growth Mindset initiative – we know we are stronger together.
And the staff?
Our staff are passionate, driven and determined professionals who do everything they can for the children every single day. They work extremely hard to create great learning experiences that are relevant and appropriate to the needs of the children, and which are inspired by creativity.
What do you like most about your job?
The children always brighten my day – everything we do is all about making difference for them and ensuring that they meet and even exceed their potential. Their abundant enthusiasm for learning and the school make St George a very special place to work. I love the impact you can have as a Head of Primary – for me it is always about that drive for learning and making a difference for the children every day.
