Our St. George Madrid Year 10 class started their Duke of Edinburgh expeditions, being challenged to navigate and fend for themselves in the mountains. Last week, the CAS students and the 6th form team kicked off this new school year with a 13km hike in the beautiful Sierra Norte, more specifically the valley between Miraflores and Bustarviejo.
Everyone set off in the morning well prepared with a packed lunch, plenty of water, a map, and high spirits. As the day wore on the challenges arose. For some students, it was the map reading they found difficult and there were a number of wrong turns taken. For others, the challenge was the distance and there were a few sore feet and aching legs by the end of the day. Whatever the challenges, the students worked together in groups helping each other to complete the route. Everyone made it back to the bus on time and returned to school tired and happy after a day spent in the great outdoors!
