St. George is a private British school, located in Madrid, which teaches from the age of two until the age of 18. In its classrooms it integrates students of more than 45 different nationalities who, from the first day, learn English with native teachers. Will the school open in September? Are measures being taken due to covid19?
Yes, the 2020-21 academic year will begin on September 7, unless the Madrid authorities establish otherwise. We are working during the summer to ensure a safe return to school, it is our priority. We have made changes in our facilities and created specific protocols. We have a campus of two and a half hectares, green areas and extensive facilities, so our students can have a safe return to school in September.
¿What Educational System Does St.George Madrid Follow?
The English National Curriculum – British education system.
In addition to this curriculum, in order to validate your studies, we teach the subjects of Spanish Language and Social Studies. The last two years our students from 17 to 18 years
old accomplish the IB Diploma program in English.
What language are the subjects taught in?
All subjects are taught in English by native British teachers with the exception of Spanish, French and German, who teach native teachers in each language.
When will my child have classes in Spanish, French and German?
The number of hours varies according to the age of the students. Spanish begins at age 4. From Year 7, 11 years, French or German is introduced.
What are the school hours?
We open the doors of the school at 9.00, students can enter classes from 9.15 and classes start at 9.30 am for Infant and Primary and at 9.20 am for Secondary and Sixth Form. Classes end at 16:20 for Primary and 16:30 for Secondary. Secondary students may be on campus from 8:00-17:30 but do not need to enroll in any specific club.
Is there an extended schedule?
Yes, from 8.00 a.m. to 9.00 a.m. we have the breakfast club for those parents who need to leave their children before the opening of doors at 9.00 a.m.
Are there extracurricular activities?
Every day we offer different activities depending on the age of the students. All activities take place on the school premises and end at 5.30 pm.
Is there a coach service?
Yes, we have school routes in the morning and afternoon from many points and areas of Madrid.
Is everything cooked at school?
St. George’s schools have their own kitchen and everything is cooked in the school. We prepare a varied, healthy and balanced menu, based on a Mediterranean diet. We adapt the menu to the different needs of the students.
How old are they napping?
The 2 and 3 year olds, Pre Nursery and Nursery, have one hour of nap a day.
What is the percentage of international students?
65% of our students are Spanish and the rest come from different parts of the world. Currently, there are 45 nationalities in the school.
What language do the children speak at school?
Children in classes must speak English, except for toddlers who are learning English and can switch to their native language to express an idea. Even so, teachers address them in English.
Is it a problem if my child does not speak English?
No. When they’re little, kids learn through play. Day by day we see how they are learning and naturally incorporating English into their conversations and games. From Year 3 onwards, they will take a level test and the centre’s management will value each child in particular.
How often do they get grades and tutorials?
Throughout the school year, grades are given at the end of each quarter. In addition, tutorials are held with the families to discuss the needs of the students, follow up on them and support them in whatever they need. If you need to talk to your child’s teacher, you can request a meeting or contact the teachers through the parents’ portal. Communication with the family is very important to us.
Can you get into St. George's in the middle of the year?
We understand that families can be transferred at any time of the year so we do accept children during the school year. However, each case will be studied on an individual basis.
Is it difficult to integrate and adapt to school?
St. George’s students are great hosts. We have a great sense of family where we welcome new students with enthusiasm. We know that, in the end, children spend more time at school than at home, so our priority is to make them feel happy among us. We have a «Buddy system» where our students volunteer to «sponsor» new students.
Will they be able to access the Spanish university?
Yes, students can access national universities, both public and private, as well as British and foreign universities. Our ESO and Bachillerato studies are validated with the Spanish system.
