At St. George, we celebrate the diversity of the children’s home lives and strive to learn as much as we can about their experiences outside of school. In turn, we aim to include our parent community in every step of their child’s early education. This strong partnership and open dialogue sets the scene for our youngest learners to thrive.
As part of this collaboration, we invite our Infants parents into school every term for a Stay & Play event. This provides parents the opportunity to engage with their children in the classroom and outdoor environment to see what their day to day learning looks like. During the Stay & Play, students are given a list of challenges to complete with their parents. These activities link to their current topic and are designed to encourage collaboration and conversation.
This term, we invited parents in for our summer Stay & Play. Due to the warmer weather, we were able to set up many of the activities outside. In Pre Nursery, our students were learning about People Who Help Us, their activities were themed around firefighters and included a role play fire station and a firefighter scavenger hunt. Our Nursery students were learning all about Minibeasts, they enjoyed activities such as modelling their own minibeasts and going on a bug hunt. In Reception, students were learning about Storytelling. They completed tasks such as building a house for the Three Little Pigs and sharing a favourite book with their parents.
Our young students and their families really look forward to these events. The children are always excited to welcome their families into school. For parents, it is a great opportunity to learn more about their child’s day to day life. This knowledge equips parents to have more meaningful conversations with their children about their learning and about life at school.
