Last Friday evening marked a significant milestone for St. George Madrid as the school celebrated its fourth International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) graduation ceremony. Students, parents, friends, family, and staff gathered in the school auditorium to honour the accomplishments of the Year 13 graduates.
The ceremony began with a grand entrance by the graduates, who processed into the auditorium to a warm round of applause. Mr. Montier, the Head of School, officially opened the proceedings with a speech that underscored the importance and significance of the students’ achievements. He reflected on their journey and the exciting next steps awaiting them in their lives.
The keynote address was delivered by Mr. Daniel Hernandez, Senior Vice President for Digital Technology and Environment at Telefonica in Madrid. His inspirational speech focused on the key skills necessary to succeed in today’s and tomorrow’s world. Mr. Hernandez emphasized how the knowledge and experiences gained through the IBDP would position the graduates advantageously for both university and their future careers.
Following Mr. Hernandez, Mr. Morgan, the IBDP Coordinator, took the stage to reflect on the graduates’ collective and individual journeys over the past two years.
The subject awards were presented by Mr. Morgan and Mr. Whatcott from our IB teaching team, recognising high achievement and progress across all subjects. A special highlight was the awarding of the first-ever Silver Award for the Duke of Edinburgh to Hareton Hicks, marking a historic moment for the school.
Graduation certificates were then presented to each student by Mr. Montier, culminating in a proud and emotional moment for all involved. The ceremony concluded with a speech by Mr. Merrick, Head of Secondary.
After the formal proceedings, attendees moved to the front lawn for canapés and drinks. This provided a final opportunity for students and parents to mingle with teachers, exchange goodbyes, and extend their best wishes to the Class of 2024 as they embark on their new journeys.
The evening was a testament to the hard work, dedication, and achievements of the graduates, marking a memorable chapter in their academic careers and the life of St. George Madrid.
